  • Fay & Jason – Shoot The Dress Session

    31st May 2009 · 7 Comments

Fay & Jason were married at Rowton Castle in February. Unfortunately I didn’t get to shoot their wedding but I so wish I had! They booked the photographer recommended by the venue and were a little disappointed with the results. Fay emailed me asking about a “Trash The Dress” session, stressing that she “doesn’t want to actually ‘trash’ the dress”. And to be honest, neither would we.

So we met up one Tuesday morning in May and spent the day on a mini adventure in search of cool locations, only stopping for a nice pub lunch out in the countryside. This is why I LOVE my job and Fay & Jason rocked the shoot. Unlike the wedding day there were no restrictions on time, location, etc. They didn’t have to worry if their guests were ok and if the dress got a little dirty, so what?! Just clean it later.

I wish every bride would do this after her wedding day. We had so much fun!

So here are just a selection of images from our “Shoot The Dress” session with Fay & Jason.

    FAVOURITE!!!

This shoot was absolutely one of my favourites ever and that’s mainly down to Fay & Jason being so cool, fun, adventurous and great company. Thanks so much for asking me to do the session. Now, which one will look best on your wall…?

We featured these guys on Bridal Soup this week but I love their videos so much I had to share them here too. This is wedding videography with a difference and makes me wanna get married all over again just so that I can book the guys who do them!

Check out these two examples of how to make a wedding video that you will watch over and over…

  • Band Photoshoot Competition – Vote For The Finalists

    20th May 2009 · 423 Comments

Earlier this year I announced a competition for one unsigned band to win a photoshoot and get themselves a variety of great band portraits to help them to stand out from the crowd. We had loads of entries from all kinds of bands and solo artists all over the Midlands. The answer to the question, What was Steve’s favourite album of 2008, was “Asking For Flowers” by Kathleen Edwards.

I’ve now decided to upgrade the prize to include live shots of the winning band next time they play in the area.

I thought it’d be fun to let music fans and readers of this blog vote for the winning band from a randomly drawn selection of six bands/artists who entered the competition. So check out the bands’ MySpace pages, listen to their tracks and leave a comment after this blog post with the name of the band you think deserve the prize most. ONLY ONE VOTE PER PERSON PLEASE ;)

    The finalists are:

    The Jaayz – WEBSITE

    Stunts – WEBSITE

    Start The Hourglass – WEBSITE

    StRANGEtIME – WEBSITE

    The Amateurs – WEBSITE

    Regis – WEBSITE

    VOTING CLOSES MAY 31ST.

Photos from the winning band’s shoot will, of course, be featured here on the blog :)

Good luck to all six bands.

    Steve

  • On The Road With Gojira

    13th May 2009 · 1 Comment

As a music photographer I’m lucky enough to photograph some amazing artists, some legendary, some almost unknown. I get into most gigs free and often get to meet some of my favourite bands. Not a bad job really :)

Recently I got to spend a couple of days with my favourite metal band, the mighty GOJIRA. They may not be the most well known band in the world but if you like your music heavy, intelligent and original, make sure you check them out. They’re also amazing musicians and the nicest guys you’ll meet.

I was working for Terrorizer Magazine for their Road Report feature and hung out with the band in Birmingham and Stoke-On-Trent. I started with a few pics of the guys hangin’ out and soundchecking.

We then took a break to get some band portraits outside the venue..

Before the show I grabbed a few shots of them during their warm up routine.

And then it was show time!

And this is what a band looks like after an immense and intense live show…

Thanks to Christian, Joe, Mario and Jean Michel for making me feel so welcome. I look forward to catching up with the band again when they return to the UK.

  • Dani & Chris – Engaged!

    12th May 2009 · 3 Comments

It’s always an honour and a privilege when a couple chooses us to photograph their wedding but it’s even more flattering when we’re booked to shoot the wedding of a fellow wedding photographer! Chris is a fantastic photographer shooting everything from weddings to rock bands (sound familiar?!) and next month he will be marrying his beautiful girlfriend Dani. I know it’s going to be a wedding to remember.

On Easter Sunday we met up for their engagement shoot and spent a couple of hours getting them some great images. Couples like this make my job easy!

These guys are such a cool couple. Can’t you just tell how well suited they are!? I can’t wait to shoot their wedding!!

  • Laura & Mark – Married!

    9th May 2009 · No Comments

Laura & Mark were married a few weeks ago in a beautiful church in Four Oaks, Birmingham before heading over to one of our favourite venues in the area, Moxhull Hall, for the reception. For a spring wedding the weather could not have been better and everyone at the wedding made myself and my assistant Natalie feel totally welcome.

A great couple, lovely guests, beautiful locations and perfect weather. We were in our element!

Here are some of my fave images we came back with from their day…

    The super-funky cake…

We always love spotting reactions during the speeches…

And some eveing portraits with some assistance from the video light…

The party ended with some great sets from Carl Sinclair & The Wedding Crashers.

This was another great, fun wedding and I want to thank Laura, Mark and their families for having us their to share the day. It’s going to be a fantastic album!

  • Cancer Bats – Review The Singles

    4th May 2009 · 1 Comment

So I just got back from Birmingham Academy where the amazing Cancer Bats will be headlining later tonight. I was there to meet up with Liam and Mike from the band who were guest reviewers for Rock Sound‘s singles page. We listened to a bunch of new releases and the guys gave me their opinions on what they heard.

Then I got a couple of shots to go with the feature. Here’s Liam and Mike with their favourite singles from the bunch…

… and here they are with their least favourite..

    Great guys. Amazing band.
